Like many other projects and initiatives the Technology Centre has fallen victim to COVID-19. Our designated space in the Burton Elementary School became inaccessible during the pandemic.
This only weeks after doing an initial purchase of equipment, which is yet to be utilized.
Since then the school has been the beneficiary of a large influx of students. Good news for our community, bad news for the technology centre. Since we have lost our space for the foreseeable future.
Hopefully we can find a new home soon.
The Learning Centre will be CLOSED until further notice, due to the Covid-19 virus.
This includes all scheduled classes and activities, as well as access to the fitness centre and reading centre. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and well being of the community must come first.
The BCLC has started purchasing equipment for the new Technology Centre. The technology space and equipment will be set up in the coming weeks. We are looking for any and all interested people to help with this implementation.
This is your chance to get in on the early stages of this exciting project. NO technical experience is required. Come out and help the community, while learning/understanding this new technology.
To help out please contact Jerome Goodman – phone/text at 265-1853 or by email.
The Burton Community Learning Centre has been awarded a grant from the Columbia Basin Trust to promote digital literacy in Burton. With this grant the BCLC will be setting up a “Technology Centre” in the Burton Elementary School. This technology centre will include two digitization and creativity stations. In addition there will be a robotics workshop, where young and old can come out and try their hand at building robots. Courses and workshops will be made available to the public to learn how to take advantage of this technology.
Over the next few months the BCLC will be setting up the technology space, purchasing and setting up equipment. This is an exciting opportunity for Burton.
The Burton Reading Centre has a full featured library. There are many popular titles to choose from. Our selection includes fiction, non-fiction, children’s, do-it yourself books, magazines. We also have a large selection of DVD’s to borrow. Jigsaw puzzles can also be borrowed, or just start one right in the library. There is a limited selection of board games for use as well.
Not using your DVD’s anymore? Why not donate them to the reading centre? They will still be around if you want to watch them again, and in the mean time others can enjoy them as well.
The reading centre is open any time the Learning Centre is open. See our schedule here.
